Custom Made Shoe: Learn The Anatomy of a Custom Made Shoe

How many different pairs of formal shoes have you owned? Everyone has owned a pair of dress shoes that were either too tight, uncomfortable, or sometimes even painful. Have you ever possessed a pair of dress shoes that you will always remember for their distinctive style, flawless fit, or sturdiness? Try a pair of men's custom-made shoes if you can't remember the last time you wore a pair of elegant shoes that were at the same time comfortable.

Ever wonder what's inside your Custom Made Shoe? By breaking down the shoe's anatomy and describing the shoe-making process in this piece, we intend to highlight the precise features and individual components needed to create a high-quality, handcrafted shoe. The design of handcrafted shoes has not significantly changed since the 19th century. Luxury handcrafted shoes are manufactured from various premium materials to create a final product built to last and ensure years of owner delight.

A high-end, handcrafted shoe requires more than 30 distinct components. The word "construction" is adequate since the process of manufacturing shoes requires the shoemaker to handcraft and construct the flat surface of the leather top into a three-dimensional shape by fitting one section into another and adjusting them over or below one another. The made-to-measure last, the pieces of the upper that has been stitched together, the leather for the soles, and other components of the lower half of the shoe are now put on the shoemaker's bench. Now is the time for the Custom Shoemaker Bondeno Shoes to start the initial steps in creating the custom shoe.

Cork filing

The welt's hollow section is filled with cork, which gives the sole some springiness and stability when the wearer walks.

Counter

The inner counter serves as a reinforcement at the seam where the two halves of the top are attached. It also extends the heel and secures the foot inside the shoe. The outside counter, which wraps around the stitched sides, is cut from the uppers' leather. It might be a much wider piece of leather that matches the heel's form or a tiny strip.

Heel Lifts

The heel is constructed from two to four strong leather sections called lifts.

Heel top Piece

the portion of the heel's outside leather that makes direct touch with the ground. We use a mixed heel that is made of half rubber and half leather for improved grip with ground when walking.

Inside Toe Cap

The neck region of the hide is used to cut a piece of leather that is 1.7–2 mm thick. It is inserted between the leather of the top and the lining, and its form will vary depending on the shoe style. The inner toe cap offers the shoe's toe an appealing form and strong support so that walking in rainy weather won't cause it to stretch out of shape. The toes are likewise protected.

Insole

Depending on how sturdy the Custom Made Shoe is, the insole is a piece of leather that is an eighth of an inch (2.5–3.5 mm) thick and goes half the length of the shoe starting from the back and serves as the foundation for the shoe. Usually, a thin leather lining within the shoe protects it (the insole cover).

Insole Cover

This soft leather covering, which is positioned over the insole and comes into touch with the foot, is present.

Lining

Pit-tanned leather lines the interior of the upper. This lining is in close touch with the foot. Thus, it has to be especially flexible and breathable.

Outsole

the area of the shoe that directly contacts the surface of the ground. It is around three-sixteenths of an inch (4mm) thick in stylish thin soled and lightweight shoes and is 8mm thick in Goodyear welted shoes or Blake-Rapid shoes.

Rand

The rand is a piece of leather nailed to the insole and outsole and is 2 cm long, 3/4 inch broad, and 1/8 inch thick. It serves as the heel's foundation or supplements the welt as the shoe's outsole. The rand is secured with wooden pegs in welted shoes and sewn into double-stitched footwear.

Rubber heel piece

The heel top component is fitted with a firm, scuff-proof rubber piece roughly a quarter inch [6 mm] thick.

Shank Spring

The shank spring is a steel spring about 4 inches (10 cm) long and a half inch (1.5 cm) broad. It is inserted into the hollow area between the insole and the welt and extends from the beginning of the foot's ball to about halfway up the heel. Its form fits the sole's curved contour. The shank spring stops the heel from swaying and stabilizes the foot while the wearer walks.

Side Reinforcements

Between the outer layer, the leather lining, the toe cap, and the counter, side reinforcements are cut from the upper's material and affixed to the upper. They are slender leather strips that provide strong support to both sides of the shoe and stop the upper from stretching out of shape.

Shoe Upper

The shaft of the shoe or the exterior of the shoe's upper section is made of leather French calfskin. Typically, the upper is 1.4 millimeters thick.

Welt

The supporting framework of the shoe is a strip of leather typically two feet long, three-quarters of an inch wide, and an eighth of an inch thick [60 cm x 2 cm x 3 mm]. Together, the upper, insole, and sole are held by it.

Here are the six distinct benefits of having custom-made men's shoes made:

  • High-quality craftsmanship - You will obtain professionally constructed footwear that is hand-designed, painted, and manufactured by an artisan craftsman when you choose handcrafted shoes versus mass-produced brands. Your custom-made shoes will be delivered within 12 weeks after your order is ready to be processed with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Longevity - Italian leather shoes crafted to order are built to last. Superior materials outperform synthetic textiles and mass-produced clothing in terms of durability, comfort, and ease of cleaning. A skilled artisan will manufacture your own Handmade Shoe, which is a long-lasting investment.
  • You Can Modify the Design: All of us have experienced shoe buying situations when we would have chosen a shoe if it had been available in a different color or style. Well, that's no longer a concern with custom-made shoes! The possibilities are endless if you find a shoe you like on a Bespoke Shoe website like Bondeno Shoes. Use our easy shoe customizing method if you discover a wonderful pair of shoes but want them to come in your preferred color or style!
  • They Are 100% Yours: Have you ever purchased a fantastic new pair of shoes only to discover that someone else already has the same pair when you arrive at a significant event wearing them? The chances of it happening with shoes you can grab off the shelf are rather high. But with personalized shoes, they are genuinely 100% yours! You may be confident that no one else will possess a similar pair.
  • More Cost Effective: As we have explained, even if buying a cheap pair of shoes may initially seem like the better choice, in the long term, you wind up spending more since you are continuously replacing worn-out shoes with inexpensive materials. Even while the higher-quality Bespoke Shoe may cost more upfront, they will last for many years. Since you won't need to replace them as soon as they show signs of wear and tear after a few months, getting custom-made shoes will cost you more money in the long run.
